LACMC Education Committee Seminar Information

Fraud during the pandemic! During the six month period from January – June 2020 the Office of County Investigations reviewed 636 fraud cases Countywide and substantiated 173. There were 895 cases under active investigation, a significant decrease due to the pandemic. The volume and nature of cases significantly changed. During this period 23% of cases investigated were Personnel Issues; 15% Time Abuse; 13% Theft; 9% Computer Misuse; 9% Misuse of County Resources; 3% Contractor Improprieties and 28% Other Improprieties. This seminar will cover case studies and share tips on how to identify fraud.

  • What to do if you suspect fraud, waste or abuse
  • Examine current and emerging fraud trends in the County

  • Identify fraud risk areas managers and supervisors should be on the look-out for
  • Learn about opportunities for County management to make new systems and programs more resistant to fraud

Presentation will include discussions of actual, recent fraud cases and will provide opportunities for questions and audience engagement.

Office of County Investigations 

Mr. Campbell’s responsibilities include administering the County's Fraud Hotline, and overseeing criminal and administrative investigations of fraud, waste and abuse within the County government. Mr. Campbell is a Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Fraud Examiner and a Certified Fraud Specialist. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Loyola Marymount University and a Certification in Risk Management Assurance from the Institute of Internal Auditors.
