Mindfulness and Wellness: Fitness Techniques and Living in the Moment

Thursday, November 18, 2021

9:00 am to 12:00 pm

Leadership roles are often one the most challenging and stressful roles we take on as managers and supervisors, requiring an array of skills, knowledge, and strong acumen.  As we consider the challenges and complexities that we face as County leaders, it is easy to understand the value and importance of cultivating mindful leadership, restoring work-life balance, and maintaining physical and mental wellness.  In this interactive virtual seminar, we will explore concepts in Hardcore Mental Conditioning of Career Technical Education (CTE) and learn hands-on techniques and strategies in restorative yoga that helps promote mindfulness, living in the present moment, and encouraging physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. This class is appropriate for individuals of all skill levels and is practiced at a slow pace, with a focus on long holds, stillness, and deep breathing. Come and enjoy this unique LACMC offering along with your yoga essentials – mat, comfortable clothing gear, and yourself!

Participants will:

  • Gain a general understanding of ways to reduce stress, restore physical and mental balance, and relax through an interactive yoga class session.
  • Learn fitness techniques that may be applied across all skill levels, and the ability of yoga to activate the parasympathetic nervous system.
  • Explore topics in “Mental Health Conditioning” to help you and your staff improve mental fortitude by managing their negativity diet, neutral thinking, and cognitive distortions.

Instructor (9:00-10-30):

Before Andrea Borja went into the field of health and fitness, she was very successful in the field of Finance, working for Fortune 500 companies such as Pepsi, KFC, Polaroid, and Disney.  Five years ago, she decided to take the first step on the journey to becoming who she is today, teaching her first yoga class to a group of close friends.  To undergo this transition, Andrea had to reinvent herself along the way.

Andrea moved to Nosara, Costa Rica where she was able to create a perfect balance between work and leisure.  She is now living the life she has always dreamed of, full of yoga, adventures, and travel. Andrea enjoys teaching Yoga and Fitness to large groups, small groups or individuals, but working one-on-one with someone is something that Andrea is very passionate about.
