Managers and supervisors experience unique demands and stressors associated with their organizational role. This workshop will provide attendees a sophisticated frame for self-care as well as a frame for fostering an organizational environment that will promote the resilience and hardiness of their staff.

This workshop is designed to cultivate the wellbeing and psychological resilience of attendees and help them better support those with whom they work. Psychological resilience is associated with satisfaction in the workplace and with decreased burnout. This in turn will foster greater longevity and effectiveness of LA County
employees. When this is realized, the public is better served.

Participants will learn to:

  • Identify the stresses associated with work as a public servant;
  • Facilitate recognition of early signs of stress impact and how to mitigate the cumulative stress effects associated with public service;
  • Define the role of supervisors and organizations in 1) alleviating staff “self-care burden” and 2) facilitating a protective work environment; and
  • Cultivate healthy supervisory alliances with direct reports.
